Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is an empirically supported treatment that focuses on modifying problematic thoughts & behaviors that contribute to & maintain emotional problems like anxiety, stress, & depression. Like traditional forms of therapy, CBT emphasizes a warm, safe, & empathic therapeutic environment. CBT is different from some approaches in that it focuses on present-day problems & learning skills to overcome symptoms. Instead of focusing on childhood issues, you will learn to identify thoughts & behaviors that are keeping you stuck, so you may develop more adaptive ways for navigating your life.
Prolonged Exposure Therapy (PE) & Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) are two specific forms of CBT designed to help survivors of trauma overcome the symptoms of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) is a specific form of CBT for overcoming the symptoms of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.
We now offer exposure therapy with Virtual Reality technology in select locations.

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
Acceptance and commitment therapy is an empirically supported treatment that focuses on reducing experiential avoidance and accepting internal experiences (thoughts and feelings) in the service of living a valued, vital, and meaningful life. Mindfulness, metaphors, and experiential exercises play a central role in ACT.
Superhero Therapy refers to incorporating pop culture into evidence-based therapies, such as cognitive behavioral therapy and acceptance and commitment therapy in order to assist people with overcoming anxiety, depression, posttraumatic stress disorder, and other disorders. Examples used in therapy might include Superheroes, like Batman, Superman, or the X-Men, as well as fantasy series, such as Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, and science fiction, such as Doctor Who, Star Wars, and Star Trek. As a first step, we have all clients undergo an initial diagnostic evaluation. This process typically takes between one to three visits (each 50 minutes). During these visits, we get to know you, and you us. We assess current and past psychiatric symptoms and also ask about your history. This allows us to develop a comprehensive understanding of you so that we can create a treatment plan that best fits your needs.
Individual therapy typically occurs weekly for 50 minutes per session. You and your therapist will generate goals for therapy and spend your sessions working toward achieving those goals using techniques that have been supported by research.
We offer a number of different group therapy options for a variety of psychiatric and medical conditions. Groups are typically held on week nights over the course of 3-4 months. If you are interested in group therapy, contact us at 858-354-4077 or email@example.com to discuss options.
